Seat selection conditions

When you’re purchasing a Regular seat in Economy Class, an extra comfortable seat in Economy Class, a Premium Comfort seat or a Business Class seat, these are the terms and conditions you agree to.

1. Regular seats and extra comfortable seats

1.1 ‘Extra comfortable seat’ means Economy Comfort seat, seat with extra legroom, seat in a row of 2, or front section seat. KLM’s extra comfortable seat types have various characteristics and do not always provide additional comfort, as this category includes regular seats that are most in demand for booking.

1.1.1 ‘Regular seat’ means a regular Economy Class seat before check-in starts (to be reserved at a fee).

1.1.2 ‘Premium Comfort seat’ means a Premium Comfort seat before check-in starts (to be reserved at a fee).

1.1.3 ‘Business Class seat’ means a Business Class seat before check-in starts (to be reserved at a fee).

1.2 KLM provides extra comfortable seats in Economy Class. Delta Air Lines provides Delta Comfort + Seats in Economy Class. Reserving 1 of these seats, if available, involves an additional charge.

1.3 Flying Blue Elite members and SkyMiles Elite members can reserve specific extra comfortable seats and regular seats for free or at a discount.

1.4 We shall make reasonable efforts to meet your seat allocation request for an extra comfortable seat, a regular seat or a Delta Comfort + Seat. However, we reserve the right to assign or reassign extra comfortable seats, standard seats or Delta Comfort + Seats at any time, even after aircraft boarding, for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision resides with the ground agents and the operating crew on the day of the flight. Please see below (3) for more information on refunds.

2. Requirements and qualifications

2.1 In order to utilize an extra comfortable seat, a regular seat or a Delta Comfort + Seat you represent and warrant that you possess the legal authority to enter into this agreement and subsequently to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement; and

2.2 You further represent that all information you supplied to request a specific seat is accurate and that you will not make any speculative, false or fraudulent booking. You further represent that you will only make reservations for yourself or another person on whose behalf you are entitled to act and which person also complies with the requirements in paragraph 2.1.

2.3 When you select to sit in the seats adjacent to the aircraft emergency exits, you have to be able to understand the safety instructions and to be capable of assisting in an emergency and therefore have strength, dexterity, full mobility and not take any medication that can affect these qualities as required by applicable safety laws and regulations.

3. Refunds

3.1 In the event of an extra comfortable seat not being provided to you, you are entitled to a refund, representing the amount paid for the extra comfortable seats, for that specific part of the journey in the following cases:

  • You request a refund of your ticket and extra comfortable seat within 24 hours of booking both.
  • Your KLM flight was cancelled.
  • The type of aircraft or seat layout for your KLM flight changed, and the same extra comfortable seat type was no longer available.
  • You missed your KLM intercontinental flight following a previous flight operated by KLM or another SkyTeam partner.
  • You did not use the extra comfortable seat because you changed your flight, but the same type of extra comfortable seat was unavailable on the new flight.
  • We used our right to assign or reassign your extra comfortable seat before or after boarding for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision resides with the check-in agents and the operating crew on the day of the flight.

3.2 In the event of a regular seat not being provided to you, you are entitled to a refund, representing the amount paid for the standard seat for that specific part of the journey, in the following cases:

  • You request a refund of your ticket and your regular seat within 24 hours after booking both.
  • Your KLM flight was cancelled.
  • The type of aircraft or seat layout for your KLM flight changed.
  • You missed your KLM intercontinental flight following a previous flight operated by KLM or another SkyTeam partner.
  • You have been moved to a seat with a different seat number in the same aircraft type.
  • You have been moved to a seat with the same seat number in a different aircraft type (with different characteristics, e.g., the window seat is now the middle seat, or if you are not seated next to your travel partner anymore).
  • You reserved a seat on a KLM-marketed/operated flight but changed to a non-KLM marketed/operated flight.

3.3 You can request a refund by filling out a refund form.

3.4 On some occasions, KLM will initiate a refund if an extra comfortable seat or a regular seat is not honoured.

3.5 No refund will be made if you do not meet the above-mentioned criteria.

3.6 The paid option for extra service will be valid for 1 year and can only be used for the same option and the same person on the paid seat.

3.7 When purchasing a Last Minute Paid Upgrade, you are entitled to request a refund for any previously purchased paid seat product.

4. Miscellaneous

With this service, we offer you an extra comfortable seat, a regular seat or a Delta Comfort + Seat in Economy Class when and if available. No additional service or product elements are included other than the characteristics of the extra comfortable seat type. Seats located in a row of only 2 seats cannot be fully reclined.
